  • About Dr. Elliot Joseph

I am Florida Licensed Psychologist. I have experience in various settings including private practice, school, hospital, university-based clinic, community outpatient agency, and Juvenile Justice residential treatment. I have provided psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults. I have used individual, family, and group formats. I have focused on treating ADHD, depression, anxiety, anger, behavioral problems, substance use, and suicidal behaviors.

I utilize a variety of treatment approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I speak some Hebrew.

I completed my doctoral training (Doctor of Philosophy- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology) at Nova Southeastern University. My training during graduate school provided me with a foundation of Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Parent Effectiveness Training, and psychological evaluations.

I completed a one-year, APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship, at Nova Southeastern University’s Psychology Services Center. During internship, I gained training in psychological assessment, and therapy with adults, adolescents, and children. My post-doctoral training consisted of working at two locations. The first location was the Broward Youth Treatment Center, a Florida Dept. of Juvenile Justice residential facility for adolescents with conduct and co-occuring substance use concerns. I also worked at a private practice where I provided individaul therapy and psychological evaluations for Child-Net.

Since completion of my training I have worked at an Alternative Education Public School. I work with at-risk adolescent students and their families on a variety of behavior and emotional concerns. I conduct psycho-educational evaluations. I also consult and work with teachers, administrators, and district personnel on student behaviors and provide mental health trainings.

I have also worked as an adjunct-professor at Touro College South, where I taught undergraduate students the following courses: Abnormal Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Biopsychology, and Drugs and Behavior.

Prior to graduate school, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Magna Cum Laude) with Developmental and Human Services Psychology concentrations from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. After completing my Bachelor’s degree I worked for Johns Hopkins University as a research/data assistant for psychopharmacology research.

I am currently a member of the Florida Psychological Association and have been for many years.
